Halfway Reflection

Dear future students,

First off, this class requires an ability to think outside the box, an ability to articulate thoughts, and the ability to plan. I would say the biggest behaviors one needs a bit of creativity. There are a lot of assignments that require the student to come up with ideas and plans and think about the many ways those plans could fail or succeed. Additionally, the ability to articulate those plans comes in handy as well. This class requires a lot of writing as it is set up in a blog format. To articulate your thoughts and express your ideas to your classmates is handy. Lastly, with the numerous amount of assignments you will most likely have to plan ahead of time to be sure to not miss any assignments.

A lot of times throughout this course I have felt like giving up and not submitting an assignment. I do this because I hate writing and this course is all about writing and consistently writing. What has pulled me though is the fact that if I don’t do it I will receive a bad grade in the course. During the past few months, I would say that I have not developed a better attitude with this course simply because I hate to write. I love all things numbers and writing isn’t my strong suit and is not enjoyable for me.

Three tips going into this course I would give a future student would be:
1.    Know what the course requirements are. Be prepared to dive in head on.
2.    Pick topics that are exciting to you. So that it is easy to write about them.
3.    Get work done ahead of time so that you don’t miss assignments. I feel like once you have missed some assignments and your letter grade is fading it is easy to get discouraged.

Best of luck,

Emily

  1. Hey Emily,
I'd say you're absolutely correct when you say this class requires a lot of outside the box thinking. I think this class has really helped me personally with my problem-solving skills through entrepreneurship. Your point of picking topics that excite you is really important as well, if I picked a business idea that I was bored by, I don't think this class would be as easy or enjoyable. Everything you said seems very relatable, nice job!

  2. Hi Emily.

I had already done my peer reviews for the week but I wanted to give you praise for this post. While you may not enjoy writing, you made this post personalized by addressing the future students with your salutation. You also went on to provide some great tips. You are correct about this class being a challenge to think outside the box, for me "way outside my comfort zone" too. I just wanted to make sure you know we are all in this together, and we are over half way through the course so we will persevere.

  3. Hi Emily,
I agree with that behaviors that you stated. I had to use a lot more creativity for this class that other classes I have taken. I also agree that this course is a lot of writing and at times I have too felt like giving up but each assignment is important to do in order to receive a good grade.
