11 A - Idea Napkin

My name is Emily Allen. I am the youngest child of four. I am originally from Jacksonville, FL but moved to Austin, Texas in high school. I would say my skills range from being an effective communicator, extremely curious, and highly meticulous. I have had numerous opportunities in my upbringing from professional to personal to develop my skills. Some of those opportunities being interning in London last summer, volunteering at various Humane Society’s, participating in philanthropic events, and traveling whenever I get the chance. My aspirations are to work for a corporate bank in either Relationship Management or in Wealth Management. For my opportunity, I would see myself implementing it while still in school and maybe having it as a second income when I join the workforce.

In Gainesville, it is extremely difficult to get around because of the huge campus at UF, the traffic flooding the surrounding roads and on campus, and the lack of cheap and available parking spaces. With my opportunity of electric razor scooters multiple students and other people who frequent campus will have the accessibility to a cheap, easy and fun option to enable them to get around.

From sampling the Gainesville population, they care. This is because it isn’t just an issue that is affecting a handful of people. Multiple students face the dilemma of getting around efficiently every day. They care about an easy alternative to their problem.

The core competencies of my business are that my venture is easy, cheap, fun, and can be utilized by all ages. With an electric razor scooter, it is not as dangerous or as expensive as buying a scooter. Which is a great way to get around UF but also expensive to buy and upkeep as well as dangerous to ride. With a car you need to have parking or find parking consistently which is also expensive, and you frequently run the risk of getting towed. Additionally, the electric razor scooters are such a fun way to get around. This idea is different and is really taking off in many other big cities around the country. It would be a perfect addition to the Gainesville culture.

My five elements fit together other than the You piece of my elements. I believe with my plan for life having a whole other business will be hard and not something I really would want to take on until after I already am stable and have worked in the corporate world for a while. Although, my other four pieces seemingly fit together because I have described the need and how to fulfill the need with an idea that really is better than any other option on the table, the aspect that I am not willing or that I am unable to implement it will hold me back for future endeavors.

  1. Hi Emily,
That is so cool that you moved to Austin, Texas in high school! After reading about your electric razor scooter product, I am fascinated. I currently am arguing with my parents about the safety of getting a regular scooter and would love to learn more about the safety features of your product. I also think that your product will appeal to many University of Florida students as you mentioned the unanimous frustration with the traffic.

  2. Hi Emily,
I really enjoyed reading through your assignment. I think it is so cool that you like to travel, I do too! Your opportunity idea about implementing razor scooters on UF campus, would be very convenient for students and professors. Students mainly understand the issues with parking on campus therefore, I think you would have a lot of student support with this idea.
