6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Trend #1: UltraFICO Scores Are Coming  Where I found it: The Simple Dollar;  https://www.thesimpledollar.com/four-economic-trends-that-will-impact-you-this-year/ What leads me to believe an opportunity exists? With a new credit scoring system multiple people will be able to increase their line of credit. With an increase in credit scores more people will be able to be approved for more things (i.e. car loans, mortgages). If you are in any industry where people utilize credit cards or need to take out loans this might be a good increase in sales.  Prototypical customer? Anyone in need of a better credit score but either has no credit history, one bad credit incident, or had credit card fraud committed against them.  Is the opportunity easy or difficult to exploit? The opportunity is there but might be difficult to exploit as it has not been implemented yet. The opportunity for people to have access for new credit scores will increase their ability to...

5A - Identifying Local Opportunities

Title: GRU, commission eye budget cuts Link:  https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190125/gru-commission-eye-budget-cuts Description: The article talks about the GRU (Gainesville Regional Utilities) and the general government having to undergo budget cuts because they are and have been using their monetary reserve to fund city projects/services.  Problem: They cannot maintain the level of service that the city of Gainesville demands or sustain themselves with the budget they are currently given.  Who has the problem? GRU workers and Gainesville residents.  Title: Florida elections chief resigns when blackface photos emerge Link:  https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190124/florida-elections-chief-resigns-when-blackface-photos-emerge/2 Description: Secretary of State Mike Ertel resigned after photos of him surfaced from 2005 in a drag costume wearing blackface at a Halloween party.  Problem: When the Secretary of State resigns for a reason suc...

4A - Forming An Opportunity Belief

My belief is that there is a need for the electric razor scooters on the University of Florida’s campus and surrounding city. These scooters have taken over cities like Austin, Nashville and San Diego. I believe they would work at UF because of our lack of parking, the dangers of scooters, and the higher costs of Lyft/Uber. The scooters are convenient, cheap, fun, and easy to use. If the company is started before competitors, like Uber’s JUMP electric scooter line, then the company could possibly be the leader in the Gainesville market.  What is the unmet need?  a safe, cheap, fast, and easy way to get around UF’s campus. Scooters are dangerous, parking is unheard of, Uber/Lyft are so expensive, and the bus can take forever in heavy traffic periods.  Who has the need?  Students, professors, visitors, employees, Gainesville residents.  Where did the need come from?  I think that parking and transportation has always been an issue at the Universi...

3A - Your Entrepreneurship Story

As a Junior in high school I began a business selling necklaces. I started this business because I needed to raise money to fund my mission trip. At the time, tassel necklaces were very in style but selling for $50-$100. I saw the opportunity to make these necklaces and sell them for $20. I could sell them for so cheap because I could use my mom’s old beading supplies from when she ran a jewelry business. I had all the tools and supplies I just needed more beads and to find tassels to attach to the necklaces. At the end of my business venture I had earned a profit of over $1000. It was a very cool experience but took a lot of hard work and some very nice friends to help me bead the necklaces. I enrolled in this class because I thought it would be a fun yet challenging way to learn more about entrepreneurship. I have heard so many great things about this class and I had the space in my schedule so here I am. From this class, I hope to learn as much as possible about entrepreneurs ...

2A - Bug List

1. In Gainesville, near UF, there are not good car parking options for people living off campus. Why it exists: Near campus a lot of the land was developed for retail, apartments, and University buildings with little land left to park your car. Where land is developed to park it is either over-priced, time constricted or decal restricted so you are unable to park your car there.  2. In the newer apple products, you have to have adapters. (Headphone adaptor, USB adaptor the new MacBook Pro.  Why it exists:  As the engineers were working on the products they decided to create the products in that way. It also probably is a revenue booster as people are constantly repurchasing the needed adaptors. 3. In Gainesville, there are not great retail options for young college women, like myself. I often have to shop online. This is fine unless I need the item fast, the item is the wrong size, and/or the item is not similar to the description. Why it exists: ...
