Halfway Reflection

Dear future students,               First off, this class requires an ability to think outside the box, an ability to articulate thoughts, and the ability to plan. I would say the biggest behaviors one needs a bit of creativity. There are a lot of assignments that require the student to come up with ideas and plans and think about the many ways those plans could fail or succeed. Additionally, the ability to articulate those plans comes in handy as well. This class requires a lot of writing as it is set up in a blog format. To articulate your thoughts and express your ideas to your classmates is handy. Lastly, with the numerous amount of assignments you will most likely have to plan ahead of time to be sure to not miss any assignments.               A lot of times throughout this course I have felt like giving up and not submitting an assignment. I do...

Reading Reflection No. 1

What surprised me the most? What surprised me the most was that Chanel had an addiction to morphine that came to be when she was dealing with her ‘tragic past’.  What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?  That Coco Chanel came from nothing and made something of herself. What about the entrepreneur did you  least  admire? That for someone so successful to still battle with demons. I felt like if she created that empire she should’ve battled her drug addiction with the same spirit. This is me being insensitive.  Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?  They did. She grew up poor with odds against her. She knew that men were critical to her career advancement and so she used her beauty to woo wealthy men and those men helped her pursue her career in fashion.  Coco Chanel was extremely ambitious and aware of surroundings. She was able to exploit her strengths to become su...

12A - Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Psychographic Segment Kendall Pikowski How much do you pay for parking?  ·        I pay $150/mo. to park at the standard parking garage. I also have to pay for the student scooter decal at UF and the standard scooter decal. I think both of those combined is about $300.  Do you ever find it difficult to get around the UF’s campus? ·        I only find it difficult when I want to go somewhere on campus and it is raining.  Do you ever walk on campus?  ·        I find myself scooting more than walking around on campus.  Does scooter parking ever seem to be a problem?  ·       Yes, especially during very busy times. Also, scooters can get knocked over or moved and that risks you getting a ticket if they are out of the scooter parking boundaries.  Have you ever utilized the bus system at UF? ·  ...

11 A - Idea Napkin

My name is Emily Allen. I am the youngest child of four. I am originally from Jacksonville, FL but moved to Austin, Texas in high school. I would say my skills range from being an effective communicator, extremely curious, and highly meticulous. I have had numerous opportunities in my upbringing from professional to personal to develop my skills. Some of those opportunities being interning in London last summer, volunteering at various Humane Society’s, participating in philanthropic events, and traveling whenever I get the chance. My aspirations are to work for a corporate bank in either Relationship Management or in Wealth Management. For my opportunity, I would see myself implementing it while still in school and maybe having it as a second income when I join the workforce.  In Gainesville, it is extremely difficult to get around because of the huge campus at UF, the traffic flooding the surrounding roads and on campus, and the lack of cheap and available parking spaces. W...

8B - Solving The Problem

The Problem:  The inability to park and get around the campus and surrounding areas at University of Florida. UF has limited parking for cars, the buses are crowed and slow, scooters are expensive and dangerous, and sometimes where you want to go is too far to walk.  The solution:  Copy the platform of Ubers’ JUMP, Lime, and Bird and bring electric razor scooters to UF’s campus and surrounding areas. The product I would be selling is like that of ride sharing. You would download the application onto your mobile device. The app will tell you where scooters are around campus. When a student picks up a scooter to ride they will be billed per minute. Where ever the final destination is they would typically just leave the scooter on the side walk parked. There would be staff that will go around at various times of the day to collect scooters and bring them to hot spot locations where students typically need the scooters. All scooters come equipped with tracking device...

7A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

The opportunity I am discussing is the opportunity to use electric razor scooters on the University of Florida’s campus mimicking the platform of Uber’s JUMP and Bird to promote mobilization and eliminate the need to park.  University of Florida’s campus and surrounding campus is not equipped with adequate parking for students and visitors inhibiting mobilization and this is due to inadequate planning and development, a huge campus, and large number of students.  The who? The need is held by any UF student/faculty/resident/visitor who feels they can never find parking, are overpaying for parking, feel they aren’t getting places efficiently, are afraid of getting towed parking in some places, and who do not have the option of riding a scooter.  The what?  Who doesn’t face challenges when parking? Faculty and citizens with disabled tags, most of the time, do not face issues because of their versatile decal and amount of spaces.  Is parking a cha...

6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Trend #1: UltraFICO Scores Are Coming  Where I found it: The Simple Dollar;  https://www.thesimpledollar.com/four-economic-trends-that-will-impact-you-this-year/ What leads me to believe an opportunity exists? With a new credit scoring system multiple people will be able to increase their line of credit. With an increase in credit scores more people will be able to be approved for more things (i.e. car loans, mortgages). If you are in any industry where people utilize credit cards or need to take out loans this might be a good increase in sales.  Prototypical customer? Anyone in need of a better credit score but either has no credit history, one bad credit incident, or had credit card fraud committed against them.  Is the opportunity easy or difficult to exploit? The opportunity is there but might be difficult to exploit as it has not been implemented yet. The opportunity for people to have access for new credit scores will increase their ability to...

5A - Identifying Local Opportunities

Title: GRU, commission eye budget cuts Link:  https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190125/gru-commission-eye-budget-cuts Description: The article talks about the GRU (Gainesville Regional Utilities) and the general government having to undergo budget cuts because they are and have been using their monetary reserve to fund city projects/services.  Problem: They cannot maintain the level of service that the city of Gainesville demands or sustain themselves with the budget they are currently given.  Who has the problem? GRU workers and Gainesville residents.  Title: Florida elections chief resigns when blackface photos emerge Link:  https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190124/florida-elections-chief-resigns-when-blackface-photos-emerge/2 Description: Secretary of State Mike Ertel resigned after photos of him surfaced from 2005 in a drag costume wearing blackface at a Halloween party.  Problem: When the Secretary of State resigns for a reason suc...

4A - Forming An Opportunity Belief

My belief is that there is a need for the electric razor scooters on the University of Florida’s campus and surrounding city. These scooters have taken over cities like Austin, Nashville and San Diego. I believe they would work at UF because of our lack of parking, the dangers of scooters, and the higher costs of Lyft/Uber. The scooters are convenient, cheap, fun, and easy to use. If the company is started before competitors, like Uber’s JUMP electric scooter line, then the company could possibly be the leader in the Gainesville market.  What is the unmet need?  a safe, cheap, fast, and easy way to get around UF’s campus. Scooters are dangerous, parking is unheard of, Uber/Lyft are so expensive, and the bus can take forever in heavy traffic periods.  Who has the need?  Students, professors, visitors, employees, Gainesville residents.  Where did the need come from?  I think that parking and transportation has always been an issue at the Universi...
